Amy McCann, 45, Drowning Victim, Wife and Mother of Three

The funeral of Amy McCann, who drowned in her backyard swimming pool in Darien on Wednesday, July 4, was held Monday in Westport, with a wake on Sunday in Fairfield.

The following obituary is posted on the Shaughnessey Banks Funeral Home website:

Amy Buffington McCann, age 45, of Darien, the beloved wife of Richard A. McCann and devoted mother of Alison, Jack and Colin on July 4, 2012 in Darien.

Born on May 23, 1967 in Tampa, FL, she was the daughter of Alan and Elaine Buffington of Naples, Florida and New Canaan. Amy attended Lahser High School in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan and Michigan State University.

Amy and Rich were married on August 6, 1994 on Nantucket Island. Amy had a special gift and passion for interior decorating, gardening and cooking favorite dishes for her family and friends.

Her husband and her three children brought true happiness and joy and always a beautiful smile to her face. Amy was an intensely committed mom, loving wife and fiercely loyal friend.

Her quick wit and gentle humor were attributes that permeated all aspects of her life.  Amy will be remembered as a gift to all of us who were fortunate enough to know her.

In addition to her husband, children and parents, she is survived by her sisters and their husbands, Lauren and Ken Slater of Palmdale, CA and Donna and Francis Jordon of Bethel, her grandfather, Dr. Reed Buffington; her mother-in-law, Daisy Pronko McCann of Westport; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law:  Hugh, Jr. and Sarah McCann, Marguerite Francis, Tom and Mary-Jo McCann, Rosemary and Paul Semanski and, Tim and Tricia McCann as well as many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial took place on Monday, July 9, 2012 at 11 a.m. at St. Luke Church, 49 Turkey Hill Rd. N. in Westport. 

A reception immediately followed the services.   Friends may greet her family on Sunday, July 8, 2012 from 2-6 p.m. at the Shaughnessey Banks Funeral Home, 50 Reef Rd. in Fairfield.
