The Darien High School boys hockey team set the stage for Saturday's showdown with the Tigers by routing Trumbull 8-0 Wednesday night at the Shelton Rinks for their 10th straight victory.
Brendan Hathaway, Trent Bergin and Tommy Waters each scored twice for the Blue Wave, who improved to 11-3 and 8-0 in the FCIAC.
Earlier in the day, Ridgefield (14-1) routed Stamford 7-0 for its 14th straight win. The Tigers are also 8-0 in the FCIAC, meaning Saturday's clash at the Darien Ice Rink likely will decided the top seed for the league playoffs.
Trumbull held Darien scoreless for most of the first period until Bergin deflected Dana Wensberg's shot from the point with 3:01 left in the first period.
Darien broke it open with four goals in the second period, then poured it on with three more in the third.
The Blue Wave featured a deadly power play, scoring three times with the man advantage, including Hathaway's first goal on a 5-on-3 that made it 2-0 at 3:15.
After Hathaway scored again at 9:11, Jacjk Knowlton converted a penalty shot with just under four minutes left in the second after a Trumbull defenseman was called for closing his hand on the puck.
Bergin's unassisted goal with nine seconds remaining completed the second-period barrage. Watters scored twice in the third, sandwiched around a goal by Grayson Horan.
Max Rothston recorded his fifth shutout of the season and second straight for the stingy Blue Wave, who have allowed only eight goals during the winning streak.
Trumbull dropped to 10-6 and 4-5.

The FCIAC wrestling championships are set for Friday and Saturday at New Canaan High School.
The event begins with the weigh-ins on Friday at 3 p.m., followed by the round of 16 matches of 4:30 p.m. and the quarterfinal bouts later in the evening.
The competition resumes on Saturday at 10 a.m. with the semifinals and consolation quarterfinals, to be followed by the consolation semifinals at 12 p.m. and the fifth-place and third-place matches at 2 p.m. The championship finals are set to begin at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
Awards will be be given to the FCIAC East and West champions along with the most valuable wrestler, the most falls in least aggregate time and a sportsmanship winner. Finally, awards will be presented to the FCIAC tournament runner-up and champion.
In 2011, Danbury won its 24th FCIAC title in 25 years, defeating runner-up Greenwich by 50 points. Fairfield Warde finished third, followed by Trumbull, Stamford and Westhill.
The Hatters reclaimed the championship after Warde ended their 23-year title reign in 2010.
Danbury, which is 20-0 and ranked No. 1 in the state, is again considered the favorite to win the crown. Other contenders include Trumbull, which is ranked ninth in the Norwich Bulletin top 10 state coaches' poll, and Warde, which is 11th.
