Young Darien Gymnasts Do Well in Leagues Meet

The Darien YMCA Level 4, 5 and Prep Op house team gymnasts competed in the  YMCA Southern Leagues Championships gymnastics meet at the Lakewood-  Trumbull YMCA on March 4. All levels were successful, with the level 5s bringing home the second place trophy and the level 4s taking fourth.

Within each level, medals were awarded by age groups for each 
apparatus and all-around (AA). In the Level 4 6-8-year-old age group, 
Meghan Sisk was the vaulting champion with a score of 9.2.  Tam Hao 
Nguyen was second on vault and sixth AA while Montana Osinski placed 
fourth on vault and seventh AA. Maggie Russell, Devon Schiff and 
Lindsay Hall's solid performances also contributed to the team's 
success.

In the 10-year-old group, Charlotte Juan placed second on 
beam with a 9.25 and fifth AA. Alexa Carrero and Kerry McDermott tied 
for ninth AA with Carrero taking fourth on vault and bars and 
McDermott winning the vault with a 9.4. Emma Koerner tied with Juan 
for second on beam and placed sixth AA and fourth on floor, while Emma 
Williams was seventh on floor. The final group included all gymnasts 
ages 11 and up.  Laura Germishuys placed sixth AA with a 35.9, third 
on beam and fourth on vault. Lily Fairleigh was eighth AA and fourth 
on beam. Sophie Blue was second on floor with a 9.1 while Sofia Font 
tied for fourth on vault with Germishuys with a 9.3 score. Caroline 
Kiesling's 9.0 on bars earned eighth place.

In the Level 5 11-year old age group beam competition, Ryan Morris was 
fourth and   Katie Weinberg was 6th. Morris also scored a 35.15 AA. In 
the 12 and up age group, Meredith McCuskey placed second AA with a 
35.55 and third on beam. Jennie Spellman was fourth AA and second on 
beam scoring 9.55. Caitlin Spellman was fifth AA and sixth on beam. 
Lydia Groves placed fourth on beam and took sixth AA. Sarah Brindisi 
was eighth AA. Carson Halabi's 9.0 balance beam score also contributed 
to the team's overall success.

Although there was not a team award in the Prep Op Intermediate 
competition, the Darien girls rocked the gym. Courtney Duker took 
second place in the AA, bars and beam events. Julia Murray won the 
beam title with a 9.2 and was second on floor and third AA. Kajsa 
Lundeen was the floor champion with a 9.1 and placed third on vault 
and fourth AA Ellie Lufkin was fourth on vault while Emily Medwid took 
fourth on bars. Marya Von Schmidt was 2nd on vault with a 9.2. Halie 
Metz placed fourth on beam and Lauren Fusek was fifth on both beam and 
floor.
