Five-Fingered Friends & Family Discount

Unusual arrests and investigations from the area.

Fairfield police are investigating a complaint made by Kohl’s Department Store staff that an employee gave family members $686 worth of discounts -- including reducing a $180 microwave to $5.

Cyrus the police dog hard at work

A Westport man robbed a Trumbull couple at knifepoint in their driveway early Feb. 4 and fled to the home of a Trumbull man he knew, Trumbull police said. The two were arrested with the help of Cyrus the Trumbull Police dog. Police said they recovered the woman's purse, which still had her belongings.

It once was lost, but now redeemed:

A Bridgeport woman took items from the lost and found box in the Westfield Trumbull Mall and exchanged them at J.C. Penney before buying more merchandise, Trumbull police said.

Wrong number:

A homeless man was arrested in Fairfield for breach of peace after he allegedly caused a scene in front of Fairfield Cab Company and also called 911—to ask for food.

Tough love:

A Fairfield mother turned her son into police after she found out he had marijuana, scales, and a pipe.

Why we try to pay police good salaries:

Westport Police officers responded to a report of driver slumped over behind the wheel of a stopped vehicle in the middle of an intersection. Police said that when they arrived he woke up and accelerated slowly through the intersection while officers ran alongside the vehicle yelling for him to stop.

Moral: Always wear your seatbelt:

Norwalk police arrested Julius Pratt on an outstanding warrant on a charge of not wearing a seatbelt while driving back in August. When he was searched at the station, police said, officers found a small bag of marijuana in his sweatshirt and 21 more bags in a hole in the shirt's lining.
