Greenwich Defeats Darien in FCIAC Girls Soccer Playoffs

The Cardinals advance to the semifinals with a 1-0 victory over the Blue Wave.

Despite a snowstorm at Greenwich High School, the Cardinals and Darien girls soccer teams got in their FCIAC quarterfinal playoff game Saturday morning.

No. 4 seed Greenwich held off the fifth-seeded Blue Wave 1-0 to advance to the semifinals.

Naomi Leeds scored in the 47th minute for the Cardinals before the snow intensified and covered the field.

All the other quarterfinal games were postponed until Sunday. Greenwich, (11-2-4), the defending FCIAC champion, will take on either top seed St. Joseph or No. 8 Trumbull in the semifinals at Wilton on Tuesday.

Darien, which drops to 9-5-3, now prepares for the state tournament.
