1.  44th Annual Darien Antiques Show Preview Party

  • Where: , 14 Brookside Rd.
  • When: Friday, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Why go: This “fun and glamorous social event” ushers in the antiques show with wine, hors d’oeuvres, and an exclusive first peek at the show, which features more than 35 dealers. 2.  Special Screening: Bag It

  • Why go: This documentary spotlights one man’s decision to stop using plastic bags and his "global tour to unravel the complexities of our plastic world,” according to the library's notice. The screening is co-sponsored by the library and Choose to Reuse in Darien. 3.  Love, Sex and the I.R.S.

  • When: Friday and Saturday, 8 p.m.; Sunday, 2:30 p.m.
  • Why go: The Town Players of New Canaan present thiswild farce with twists of fate, sight gags, mistaken identities and hilarious comic lines.”

4.  Dine Out: Westport Restaurant Week

  • When: Through 10 p.m. Saturday
  • Why go: It’s a perfect opportunity to check out the dining scene in this beautiful coastal town. Select from the many restaurants participating in this annual Westport-Weston chamber event. Each offers a special Prix fixe lunch and/or dinner. Plan to revisit your favorite eateries or check out one or two you’ve had your eye on.

5.  Arturo O'Farill: Latin Jazz and Afro-Cuban Beats

  • Where: Westport Arts Center, 51 Riverside Ave., Westport
  • When: Sunday, 3 p.m.
  • Why go: Arturo O’Farrill created the Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra for the Jazz at Lincoln Center program. The orchestra earned a Grammy Award nomination in 2006 and won a Grammy in 2008 for Best Latin Jazz Album (listen to a sample). For more information, call 203-222-7070 or visit westportartscenter.org

6.  Pet Photo Day Benefit with Geoffrey Tischman

  • Where: Best Friends Pet Care, 528 Main Ave., Norwalk
  • When: Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

  • Price: $25 sitting fee will benefit Adopt-a-Dog.

7.  Astronomy Nights: The Life of a Star

  • Where: Stamford Museum & Nature Center Observatory
  • When: Friday, 7 to 8 p.m.
  • Why go: “Twinkle, twinkle” lots of stars, time to find out what they are — and view the night sky through a 22-inch telescope. The presentation portion of the program will be held rain or shine. Viewing hours depend on the weather. This program is not suitable for children 5 and under.
