Shoplifter Used Paisley Jacket to Hide Loot

A woman in the Double Exposure for about 45 minutes stole several items from the store then made her escape before store personnel even knew anything was missing.

Boots, a necklace, a coat, some jewelry and probably some other items were stolen from Double Exposure, a downtown store, sometime before 3 p.m. on Friday.

Darien police were told that an employee informed the store manager at that time that some jewelry was missing from display cases. On further inquiry, the other items were discovered missing.

The boots cost $68; the Jones New York green coat, $78; a "red stone brown freshwater pearl necklace" was priced at $28. A more thorough inventory of the store at 1090 Post Rd. will need to take place before it is known what else may have been taken, police said.

A look at surveillance footage in the store showed a woman putting items into her jacket pocket. The woman, who was in the store for about 45 minutes, was described as being in her mid- to late-50s, with shoulder-length brown hair and wearing glasses. She was carrying a paisley jacket in which she put items as she walked around the store. An investigation of the theft continues.
