Urination Charge Follows Solicitation Charge

A 38-year-old Mississippi man just released from police custody on a violation of the town's soliciting ordinance did a little releasing of his own in the police headquarters lobby last week, according to police.

William Jones, of Columbus, MS left a part of himself for police to remember him by—his urine—in a garbage receptacle in the lobby just before departing in a van at 3 p.m., Thursday, police said. Although police said his action was caught on video surveillance tape, Jones left the building and entered a waiting van before police reacted.

Darien police gave this account of how Jones came to be charged in connection with a discharge:

Jones, who was in town selling magazines for Liberty Sales of Houston, TX, had been arrested Aug. 1 on a charge of violating the town's solicitation ordinance.

Police said Jones had another person working with him at the time, and they were both using his solicitation permit—a violation of the ordinance. Jones' permit then was revoked.

Darien police applied for and received a warrant for Jones' arrest. On Saturday, Stratford police located Jones at a hotel there and took him into custody for the warrant.

Darien officers returned Jones to town police headquarters to process him for the arrest. A bail commissioner released Jones on a written promise to appear Aug. 14 in state Superior Court in Stamford.
