More About Darien Library
According to Hennen's American Public Library Rating, the Darien Library ranks in the top 10 public libraries in the county for its size. And according to statistics, it’s also one of the busiest in the state. Over 1,300 people walk in and out of the building on any given day.
The library has an enormous catalog with over 155,000 books, 5,000 audio books, 12,000 DVDs, more than 5,000 CDs and cassettes and over 340 newspapers, magazines and periodicals. If you’re a Darien resident, you will be issued a library card immediately, and you can use it to borrow material from any library in the state.
There is also a wide range of programs, activities and events at the library. These include lectures, classes, book discussion groups, Poet’s Voice, the Adult Summer Reading program, book sales, author talks, movie nights, a holiday concert, and a number of programs for children and teens.
Another way to get involved is through the library’s employment and volunteer opportunities. The library offers part-time employment opportunities for high school students and always welcomes volunteers.
The library operates through Town tax money, and donations to the Annual Campaign fund all books, software, programs, and other materials.
The Darien Library website provides extensive information about the library and other organizations and clubs in the Darien community.
