Things to know and places to go in and around Darien.

What to plan on and where to stand on for Thursday, Sept. 5, 2013:

  • Plan on going to the Norwalk Oyster Festival this weekend in Veterans Park. "The Festival offers a wide variety of activities the whole family will enjoy, including an Arts & Crafts Pavilion, the Kid’s Cove, with rides, games and child-centered entertainment, a food court with everything from Italian favorites to seafood," according to the events listing posted on Norwalk Patch. "And, not to be missed, the popular Oyster Slurping and Oyster Shucking contests." On Friday night, Max Creek plays, and on Saturday, The Village People.
  • Next week, on Sept. 12 (a Thursday), "a 'Welcome Back' Afternoon Tea will be held at the DCA [Darien Community Association] from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. [...]  Here are details on upcoming teas." -- from an announcement on Darien Patch.
  • "Yoga Warriors Week, on behalf of the Wounded Warrior Project, will take place the week of Sept. 5-12, 2013. It will be of three parts: a running silent auction, a collection box for a care package to mail overseas to my brother and his platoon, and a by-donation, all-levels yoga class." -- from an article by Lexy Stauffer on Darien Patch.
  • Thursday at 2 p.m.: "Now is your chance to show your geography chops and flex those cartography muscles! We are holding a geography bee in our Community Room where everyone has a chance to compete!" -- from an announcement on the Darien Library website.
  • "In just 15 minutes, you can learn to save a life," Darien EMS-Post 53 and the Darien YMCA promise in an announcment on Darien Patch. "The training is free and open to children as well as adults. Mark your calendar for Saturday, Sept. 29. The two organizations "will present Hands for Life Darien, a day of Hands-Only CPR training [...] at the YMCA, located at 2420 Post Rd., Darien from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.  The free CPR training takes only 15 minutes [...] No appointment is needed."
