There are few things in life I like better that a good cause and equally good cocktail. This past Friday, my husband and I attended a Wine Tasting to benefit The Darien Firefighters Foundation. provided a selection of wonderful wines while and catered the delicious hors d'oeuvres. After sampling a wide variety of wines from several different distributors, the wine tasting participants were thoroughly prepared to purchase their favorite selections. A portion of the wine sale proceeds were donated to the well deserving Darien Firefighters Foundation and a fantastic time was had by all.
While I do think it is a bit too early in the season to start focusing on Christmas (as mentioned in ), I am getting out my glue gun once again to prepare for the next cocktails for a cause we have on our calendar. I am currently summoning up all my creative energy to construct a wreath for the Festival of Wreaths event which benefits . While I will be hard pressed to surpass my "Deck The Halls" wreath that I made last year—cleverly made out of decks of cards (see attached photo), I have a few ideas I am mulling over that might be equally as impressive (to me anyway). The Festival of Wreaths reception and silent auction of wreaths will be held at the Darien Nature Center on Dec. 9 at 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Tickets should be purchased in advance.
And, speaking of wreaths, Lisa Wilson Grant kindly informed me of another great cause called Wreaths Across America which provides wreaths for our veterans in the here in Darien. You can sponsor a wreath online at www.wreathsacrossamerica.org. The wreaths will be placed on the graves at a ceremony on December 10 at 12 p.m.
So, while I think it is still too early to be singing Christmas carols and stringing up lights, it is never to early to starting giving (or cocktailing for that matter ;-).
Please let me know if there are any other opportunities coming up here in Darien to "cocktail for a cause" or just "give to a cause" that I should have on my calendar.
