Darien Schools Create Beautiful Music, Well-Rounded Students

Darien Public School students entertained their family and friends last night by performing in The Darien All-Town Orchestra Festival.  Every year, on a rotating basis, the Darien School Music Department presents a concert showcasing the musical talents of the elementary, middle, and high school choruses, orchestras, or bands.   

The intent of these all-town concerts is not only to entertain but also to show the learning progression the students achieve from the elementary school to the high school.

As a parent of three children who attend the Darien Public Schools, I have had the pleasure of attending at least one of each of the three types of all-town concerts over the past five years and I am continuously amazed by the performances. 

The music teachers have not only taught our children how to read music and play an instrument but also how to enjoy and appreciate playing and listening to a wide variety of music.   

Last night’s concert featured music from Santana to Amazing Grace and covered a wide variety of musical genres including folk, rock, blues, and classical.  Certainly more musical variety than my children usually get to experience in my home or car.

I truly appreciate the opportunity the Darien Music Department provides our children since I believe their well rounded education not only relies on the basic core courses like math, science, English, and social studies, but also on the extracurricular opportunities like music, art, sports, and community service that will enable them to develop into interesting, well rounded adults.
