Lobsters for Ladders

The Town of Darien Firefighters’ Foundation is holding its 3rd biennial Lobster for Ladders fundraising event at Weed Beach on Saturday, September 15th

If you are looking for festive way to enjoy a late summer evening and support a great cause, the Town of Darien Firefighters’ Foundation is holding its 3rd biennial Lobster for Ladders fundraising event at Weed Beach on Saturday, Sept. 15.  Lobster for Ladders party guests will be treated to tasty cocktails, a delicious raw bar, succulent lobsters, a silent auction, and dancing under the stars with live music by Jay Prince and His R&B Band—all accompanied by gorgeous views of the Long Island Sound.

Two highlights of the evening will be the retirement of the flag by a fire department color guard in honor of our fallen brothers and sisters of September 11th as well as a silent auction the proceeds of which will go towards each of Darien’s three 100-percent-volunteer fire companies: , and .  This year’s fun auction items include a day of fly fishing, a boast cruise, golf packages, a fully catered dinner party, and a three-night getaway to New Castle, New Hampshire over looking the Atlantic Ocean.

Darien’s three departments respond to approximately 1,000 calls per year. While the Town of Darien makes the safety of its citizens its highest priority, the funds provided to the departments often fall short of the needs of Darien’s first responders.  Darien’s fire departments work hard to augment their budgets through their own fund raising efforts, such as Christmas tree sales, boat raffles and direct mail campaigns—but even these efforts fall short of the mark. This event, along with Darien’s Fourth of July Fireworks, help raise funds on behalf of Darien’s finest volunteers, our firefighters.
