The Darien Democratic Town Committee announced today that it is actively seeking volunteers to serve on several town boards and commissions. Democrats and unaffiliated (independent) voters are invited to apply.
The available positions are as follows:
The Architectural Review Board provides guidance in preserving and improving the appearance and beauty of the community, ensuring the character buildings and improvements harmonize with the neighborhood and surrounding uses. Meetings are scheduled for the third Tuesday of each month at 8:00pm
The Zoning Board of Appeals hears and decides upon appeals taken from decisions of the Zoning Enforcement Officer. Meetings are scheduled for the third Wednesdays of each month at 7:45pm.
The Commission on Aging works to establish programs and activities that address the needs and requirements of the aging in town. Meetings are scheduled for the third Wednesday of each month at 9:00am.
The Environmental Protection Commission is concerned with the protection, preservation and maintenance of our natural resources, the prevention of floods, and the protection of inland wetlands and watercourses within or bordering the territorial limits of Darien. Meetings are scheduled for the first Wednesday of each month at 7:30pm.
The Parks & Recreation Commission is dedicated to nurturing active and passive recreational activities within existing Town parklands; to maintain clean and attractive facilities, and to adjust and expand programs and parklands to meet the recreational requirements of all residents in a cost effective manner. Meetings are scheduled for the third Wednesday of each month at 7:30pm.
The Social Services Commission is responsible for all public assistance in town. The commission works to identify existing and future needs for social services, prepares a budget and makes recommendations to the Board of Selectmen. Meetings are scheduled for the second Friday of each month at 8:45am.
