Sandy Bonom, owner of the , is uniting with a small organization to help shelter animals, Blankets & Bowls. Together, they have a mission to help the homeless animals who are waiting in shelters and rescues for their forever homes.
Blankets & Bowls Founder Lisa Robin saw a need when she was volunteering with animal rescue organizations for the basic comfort items that make each animal’s day-to-day existence better.
Inspired by the quote from St. Francis of Assisi “Start by doing what is necessary; then do what is possible … and suddenly you are doing the impossible” Lisa decided to provide a service that would help existing animal shelters and rescue organizations create a comfortable environment for the animals waiting for their forever home.
How can you help? The Hairy Barker Inn & Spa, which is “Dedicated to Doting on your Doggie” is a cage-free dog grooming salon using earth-friendly products.
Blankets and Bowls is a charitable all-volunteer group whose mission is to gather, organize and distribute needed pet items to homeless animals in shelters, reputable rescues and foster homes. Together they are looking for items that most people have in their homes that will improve the animal’s living conditions.
Do you have towels and blankets that you were getting ready to get rid of? What about leashes, collars, stainless steel bowls or a crate that you no longer need? Blankets & Bowls accepts all of these donations and then distributes them to shelters in need. Please refer to their Facebook fan page or their website.
The Hairy Barker Inn & Spa is a ‘drop-off’ location for these donations. Please refer to their Facebook Fan page or their website at www.thehairybarkerinnandspa.com. Their address is 21Tokeneke Road, Darien, 203-655-BARK.
Want to help more? Blankets and Bowls is currently recruiting volunteers who care about the comfort of homeless animals just as much as we do. This is a great opportunity for a community service project for a Girl Scout or Boy Scout Troop or any other organization.
Unlike many animal rescue organizations, that are required to have volunteers 18 years old and older, Blankets & Bowls welcomes volunteers of all ages. If you care about helping animals looking for their forever home, please consider spending time to help Blankets & Bowls collect and distribute these items.
