What Those Purple Ribbons Around Town Are About

The 121 purple ribbons that have been placed on trees and lampposts around Darien represent the 121 domestic abuse calls received by the Darien Police Department over the last year.

The ribbons and attached cards were hung by members of the Darien Domestic Abuse Partnership to recognize October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

The ribbons serve as a reminder that there is help for both those personally affected and for those who know someone who is affected by relationship abuse.

The Domestic Violence Crisis Center has a 24-hour hotline:  1-888-774-2900

No joke. But after seeing the political talent in the state, I don't hold out much hope.
