Award-Winning Local Artist to Teach Drawing & Painting at DAC

Award-winning local artist, Eddie Niño will be teaching The Drawing and Painting Academy at the Darien Arts Center (darienarts.org) in May and June.

His classes will teach students of all levels how to draw and paint by learning the basic and advanced concepts of composition, shading technique, proportion, and color theory. 

Niño, a professional fine artist and teacher has had rigorous academic training and brings a traditional foundation, yet modern vision to both his work and art lessons.

Born in Colombia, Niño moved to the United States at the age of 14 and began classical training in the Stamford and Greenwich area focusing on portrait painting and drawing.

He continued his studies in New York City at Grand Central Academy of Art, The Art Students League of New York, and with noted art teacher Andrew Reiss in Brooklyn, NY.

After studying for more than 10 years he then launched his career as a serious fine artist and now continues to pass his knowledge to students of all ages.  Niño’s many honors and accomplishments include private commissions, solo and group shows, and numerous awards in local shows including Best in Show at the Rowayton Arts Center in 2011. He has also published artwork in the book: Classical Life Drawing Studio.

In The Drawing and Painting Academy students will draw from a variety of subject matter including the still life and the portrait.

Class participants will gain the fundamentals needed to create personal and unique artwork. Most of the exploration will be done by working from life but photographs will also be used to introduce students to complex subjects such as the human face.

Lots of exercises, frequent teacher lectures and demonstrations will strengthen the student’s knowledge.

This class for adults will take place on six Fridays from 9:15 a.m. until 12:15 p.m. from May 9-June 13. Fee for the class is $210 with a $20 registration fee.

Niño will also be teaching a one-night workshop, Fundamentals of Drawing and Painting, on Thursday, May 1st from 6-9 p.m. for students to sample some of the techniques that will be furthered explored in The Drawing and Painting Academy.

The workshop will focus on classical art principles such as composition, shading, proportion and color theory. Fee for the workshop is $40 with no registration fee. No experience is necessary and materials are provided. To find out more or to register, go to darienarts.org or call (203) 655-8683.

Founded in 1975, the Darien Arts Center (DAC) is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing visual and performing arts programs and events for the community.
