Darien Arts Center Students "Drawn to Nature" at Nature Center

In an effort to help raise awareness of conservancy, art students from the Darien Arts Center (darienarts.org) have created the “Drawn to Nature” Art Show, which will hang at the Darien Nature Center at 120 Brookside Road, through the month of February, with an opening reception on February 9, from 3-5pm. In addition to learning about the benefits of conservancy, DAC students learned that artists have long used nature and recycled materials as inspiration for artwork, and in turn, each student has created a work that represents an element from nature or uses repurposed materials.

Displaying the show at the Darien Nature Center gave the Arts Center the unique opportunity to tie-in with the nature-oriented theme. According to DAC Visual Arts Director, Beth Cherico, “The Nature Center is a wonderful venue for displaying our work. We are very appreciative and excited about this creative collaboration.”

The stunning “green” works in the “Drawn to Nature” show were submitted from students in a variety of art classes at the DAC and the diverse pieces of art make for a visually engaging display. Classes that contributed artwork include “Experimental Methods” which explores innovative ways to create, and “Sculpt & Build” which features assorted sculptural methods. “Drawing: Looking Closer”, which examines drawing landscapes, portraits and still life, and the acrylic painting class, which teaches composition, design and perspective, also had contributing pieces of art. Approximately 20 students have submitted over 25 pieces to the show.
