On Saturday, March 8, three teams from the Darien High School Quiz Bowl Club competed in the first annual Connecticut State Championship, which was hosted by Woodland Regional High School and sponsored by National Academic Quiz Tournaments (“NAQT”).
The A Team, consisting of Michael Borecki, Claire Borecki, Molly Bell, and, Andrew Benz placed first out of nine teams at the competition, going undefeated. The A Team’s win earned Darien High School the title of NAQT Connecticut State Champion. The B team which placed 7th was made up of Porter Bowman, Sarah Lehan, Sarishka Desai, and Brendan Berrigan. The C team which placed 5th was made up of Liz Borecki, Jonathan Stimpson, and James Johnson.
Michael Borecki was the highest-scoring individual in the tournament and James and Johnathan were tied for 6th highest-scoring individual. The A Team’s win qualified the team for both the National Scholastic Championship and the High School National Championship Tournament.
