Two Darien High School music students, Melanie Turner and Matthew Hayes, were chosen through a rigorous audition and application process to participate in the National Association for Music Education’s 2013 National Honors Choir which will take place on October 27-30 in Nashville TN.

Both Melanie (soprano) and Matthew (bass) are members of the DHS Tudor Singers and have been members of the Connecticut Western Region and All-State Choruses in past few years. The National Honors Choir is made up of outstanding musicians from throughout the United Stated and will be conducted by Professor Rollo Dilworth.  Dr. Dilworth is Profession of Choral Music Education and Chair of the Music Education Department at Temple University’s Boyer School of Music and Dance in Philadelphia, PA. He has written or arranged over 150 choral works that are currently in print and has authored several books and choral methods that are in use in choirs throughout the United States and abroad. The concert will be held at the Gaylord Opryland Resort in Nashville.

Both students are currently juniors and study voice privately with Mrs. Kathryn Amyotte in addition to their choral work at DHS. Christopher Andrade, the Darien High School Choral Director, states, “This is one of the highest achievements that can be attained by high school musicians and we are very fortunate to have two outstanding, accomplished, students representing Darien and the state of Connecticut at this prestigious event. We are all extremely proud of their accomplishments.”
