Darien’s Sedlack, Stauffer, and Batson Win Gold in Greenwich

Darien High School’s Alex Sedlack and Taylor Stauffer and Middlesex Middle School’s Casey Batson helped Norwalk River Rowing open its spring regatta season on Saturday, April 5th with three gold medals at the Greenwich Invitational.  The regatta, held in Greenwich at Grass Island in a strong wind, featured 13 crews from Connecticut and New York, most of which had been practicing on the water for only a few weeks after a winter that seemed never to end.

The girls’ second novice eight, including MMS’ 7th grader Casey Batson, captured NRRA’s first gold of the day.  The boat featured five athletes who had never raced in a regatta before, who won first place in their first races.

NRRA’s next gold came from the boys’ junior varsity eight.  The day culminated with a gold medal for NRRA’s boys in the premier event, the first varsity eight in which DHS seniors Alex Sedlack and Taylor Stauffer helped power that boat to its first place finish.  On hand to award the medals was Connecticut State Senator Scott Frantz.
