'Get Jazzed' with Renowned Artists at Darien Arts Center Evening of Jazz

The Darien Arts Center (darienarts.org) is hosting ‘Get Jazzed’ an evening of jazz that will celebrate the songs of Alan Menken on June 28 at 7pm. The fundraiser, featuring world renowned Joel A. Martin’s Jazzical Trio and vocals by Liz Callaway, will take place at the DAC Weatherstone Studio at 2 Renshaw Road including cocktails, hors d’oevres and a silent auction.

Pianist, composer and producer Joel A. Martin is the creator and trademark owner of Jazzical, a marriage of classical and jazz. He has performed his innovative Jazzical compositions around the world and recently released his 7th CD in his highly acclaimed Jazzical catalog, entitled Jazzical Meets Menken, a tribute to Alan Menken. Menken, who has composed some of the most beloved songs and musical scores of our time, has won 8 Academy Awards including best song and best score for 4 Disney animated movies; The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, and Pocahantas. He has earned 19 Academy Award nominations, a Tony, 11 Grammy Awards and 7 Golden Globes.

Performing with Martin will be Liz Callaway, a Tony nominee and an Emmy Award-winning actress, singer and recording artist. Callaway received a Tony Award nomination for her performance in Baby, and for five years won acclaim as Grizabella in Cats. She has also starred in the original casts of Miss Saigon, The Three Musketeers, and The Look of Love. She recently collaborated with Martin on his Jazzical Meets Menken CD.
