Olympic Champion Meets With Darien Y Piranhas

Olympic gold medalist Rebecca Soni visited the Darien YMCA Piranhas Swim Team on Saturday, Sept. 28th.  Soni is a six-time Olympic medalist with three gold medals and three silver.  She was Captain of US Women’s Olympic Swimming Team of the 2012 games in London and holds two world records.   This was a free event for Piranhas team members as a result of their fundraising initiatives.

During the morning, Soni held 2 poolside clinics, one for Piranhas ages 12 and under and the second ages 13.  During each of the clinics, she coached 3 of the team members in drills that demonstrated to build a great breaststroke by starting with core moves and then arm strokes and kicking.  At the end of each clinic, she raced the three team members in a 50 yard breaststroke and not surprisingly, won each time.

Following the clinics, Rebecca gave a motivational talk to Piranhas team members and parents about how to deal with the pressure that comes with competitive swimming.
