PLANNED PARENTHOOD OF SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND WELCOMES SARAH WEDDINGTON, ATTORNEY FOR LANDMARK ROE V. WADE SUPREME COURT CASE, TO ANNUAL SPRING LUNCHEON

(New Haven, Conn.) – On Wednesday, April 9, 2014, Planned Parenthood of Southern New England (PPSNE) will hold its Annual Spring Luncheon at the Stamford Marriott Hotel and Spa, 243 Tresser Boulevard, Stamford, Conn. from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. Sarah Weddington, attorney, law professor, and former Texas state legislator, is the benefit’s keynote speaker. Weddington is perhaps best known for successfully arguing the landmark case Roe v. Wade, which legalized abortion in the United States.

At 26 and fresh out of law school, Weddington argued Roe v. Wade at the United States Supreme Court in 1973. She remains to this day the youngest person to argue a case at the country’s highest court. Weddington has received countless honors and commendations, including the Planned Parenthood Margaret Sanger Award and being named to TIME Magazine’s “Outstanding Young American Leaders.”

“We are truly honored to have Sarah Weddington speaking at our Annual Spring Luncheon. Women’s reproductive health care and rights would not be the same if it were not for her success more than 40 years ago,” said Judy Tabar President & CEO of Planned Parenthood of Southern New England. “Between Sarah Weddington and Lizz Winstead, we have a profound and entertaining luncheon for our supporters.”

Lizz Winstead is returning to Connecticut to host this year’s fundraiser event. Winstead, the co-creator of “The Daily Show,” is a long-time supporter, friend and advocate of Planned Parenthood. Another wonderful feature of the Annual Spring Luncheon is the Community Impact Award which will be awarded to Near and Far Aid Association of Fairfield, Conn. This all-volunteer group holds fundraisers and solicits grants to provide funding to various projects in order to eliminate the causes and effects of poverty in Fairfield County. The Spring Luncheon also includes the Opening Reception, which takes place from 11 a.m. – noon; and sponsors have a special meet-and-greet with Weddington. All guests will have the opportunity to meet Weddington and Winstead following the event during a special book signing.
