DARIEN, CT., July 18, 2013 – The Darien Arts Center, (arts.darien.org), is pleased to announce that it is offering ongoing summer classes for children to help accommodate the changing needs of families during summer break. There are many ways for kids to beat the heat at the DAC including art, music and dance workshops and classes.
Creative summer opportunities for children from ages 8-12 include the art workshop “Summer Sculpture: Action Reaction”. Children will experience using imagination, wire, and plaster to make one-of-a-kind sculptures that capture the feeling and excitement of a physical moment. This workshop will meet on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, July 29, 31, and August 1, from 2:15-3:45pm.
The popular “Mommy, Music and Me” has availability for children from birth to age 2. The focus of this class is on fine and large motor skills that will enhance future musical adventures of little ones. Parents or caregivers get to be part of the action as well. This group class is on Mondays from 9:45-10:30am.
Pre-schoolers will delight in the Pre-School Summer Art & Dance Workshop. In this creative two-part workshop they learn about dance and the joy of movement through the development of basic coordination skills and imaginative story telling, and the magic of mixing colors using a variety of materials to create two and three-dimensional projects. It is on Tuesdays and Thursdays from10:30am-1:00pm. Session 4 is from July 23-Aug. 1, and Session 5 is from Aug. 6-Aug 15.
There are also openings for instruction in piano, voice, violin and guitar from artistic and skilled professionals who help students strengthen technique, artistry, self-awareness and individuality.
