Darien on eBay: Long Ago Restaurant Menu

A restaurant which stood on the same spot as The Water's Edge at Giovanni's had cheaper prices back in the early to mid 20th century than McDonald's, just up Noroton Hill, does today.

Here's the description (from the eBay Web page where this item is being sold) of the menu of the "Shore Dinner" at Weisheit's Half Way House, on the spot where The Water's Edge at Giovanni's is today:

A 6 1/4" x 9" menu card for the Shore Dinner at Weisheit's Half Way House, Post Road, Darien CT. Based on the vintages on the wine, c. 1911 or 1912. An six course price inclusive meal with two or three choices per course.

The price was $2.50; the price without the chicken course was $2.00. The wine list for selected Rhine and Moselle Wines at base was extra. Fare included selections such as Steamed Soft Clams, Fried Eels, Broiled Lobster, and Broiled Chicken. Reverse is blank.
