Nancy Herling Elected President of At Home In Darien

At Home In Darien, formerly known as Aging in Place + Gallivant, recently issued this news release about its recent annual meeting:

At its Annual Meeting, the Board of Directors of At Home In Darien elected Nancy Herling as its President, Bill Ball, Peter Eder and Anne McGuire as Vice-Presidents,  Debby McLean as Treasurer, and Maureen Tyrrell as Secretary.

Newly elected to the Board are Carolyn Anderson, Anne Burleigh, Peter Carnes, Holly Hawes, Lisa Hughes and Patrice Malvisi. All six join the Class of 2016 and will serve for three years.  Retiring from the Board are Barbara Adams, Karen Armour, Dorothy Baker, Jean Baker, Nancy Cammann, Diana Kalman and Kate Larson.

After the regular business of the Board, Executive Director, Gina Blum, gave an update on the scope and services of the organization.  Ms. Blum reported how At Home In Darien provides transportation, vetted service providers, volunteers, programs and social opportunities, communications, and advice and referral services to Darien seniors and those who care about them.

Ms. Blum shared stories of the real people who have benefited and how appreciative they have been for the assistance.  “Our goal is to increase the use of our services,” said Ms. Blum.  “While our numbers have increased over last year, there are more people out there who can and should take advantage of our free services.”

Ms. Blum commented “Thanks to the ongoing generosity of Darien residents, we’ve been able to create an organization focused on assisting seniors to continue to live in their own homes.” Ms. Blum also shared some of the plans for 2014, including a new vehicle, driver uniforms, an out-reach program geared toward medical offices, and the move to a new space in Town Hall, when the Mather Community Center opens.

Held at the Darien Library, the open-to-the-public Board Meeting was attended by state and local elected officials, community service providers, members, donors and guests.  Newly elected President Nancy Herling noted, “We appreciate the extensive community support we have been given, and we look forward to even more meaningful involvement with seniors and their families.  We want to keep Darien a safe and enjoyable community for all ages.”
