April 15-17: Easter Eggs and Key Lime Pie

No weekend plans? No problem! Here's a list of the some of the best weekend entertainment in and around Darien:

Darien Community Association's Annual Pre-school Easter Egg Hunt

  • Where: , 274 Middlesex Rd., Darien
  • When: Friday, April 15th at 10 a.m.
  • Why go: Dust off your Easter baskets a week early for DCA's annual Easter egg hunt. Organizers promise more eggs than ever for pre-schoolers and their parents. And if that's not enough, it's for a good cause: proceeds will go to Person to Person Baby Basics.
  • Price: $10 per car or the equivalent in new baby products

  • When: Saturday, April 16 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Why go: Isn't it obvious? Free nibbles from Palmer Market's Easter menu. Chefs will be offering treats like key lime pie and French silk cake. Check out the menu in advance here
  • Price: Free

Magical Morocco

  • Where: , 1 University Pl., Stamford
  • When: Saturday, April 16 from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Why go: Take a mini spring break to Magical Morocco. This cultural festival will feature a traditional bazaar, a historical presentation on Morocco's tribal rugs, a traditional music and dance performances. Visitors will also have the opportunity to purchase Henna tattoos and traditional sausages, cookies and tea.
  • Price: $5.00 per person, Children under 12 are free

  • Where: , 1077 Post Rd., Darien
  • When: Saturday, April 16 at 10 a.m.
  • Why go: Do a little good this weekend at the Darien Playhouse's screening of Rio!, an animated flick from the creators of Ice Age. All proceeds will support the Red Cross Disaster Relief in Japan. And if you're feeling particularly generous, anyone who pledges $250 to the Red Cross will receive a free child's birthday party at the Darien Playhouse. Five hundred dollars will get you a family season pass to the theater.

A Poet's Voice

  • Where: Darien Library, 1441 Post Rd., Darien
  • When: Sunday, April 17 at 3 p.m.
  • Why go: Hear acclaimed poet Brenda Shaughnessy recite some of her best work at the annual Fairfield County libraries poetry reading series. The Japanese-born Shaughnessy has written two books - Interior with Sudden Joy and Human Dark with Sugar, and you can check out a sample of her work here. Afterwards, the library will host a wine and cheese reception.
