In 2007, while she was freshman at , Jamie Buchanan she began suffering from headaches, dizziness, and other alarming symptoms. After she was misdiagnosed as having a severe sinus infection, doctors discovered the true problem: a brain tumor.
Four years later, Buchanan — now cancer-free — has turned the tables on the disease, using her artwork to benefit other young people going through the battle against cancer.
Buchanan began developing her art during the long road to recovery with a "child life specialist," who worked to reduce the stress and anxiety that Jamie's illness imposed on her and her family.
On Saturday, Buchanan — a student a Wheelock College in Boston — put that art on display at The Depot for "A Celebration of Life." The event, which benefited the Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults, featured food, live music, a silent auction, and many works by the Darien native.
