A Visit with Author and Illustrator Raina Telgemeier

Raina will discuss her inspiration, the writing and drawing process, and host two hands-on workshops for kids interested in making comics and learning from an acclaimed cartoonist.

Raina is the author and illustrator of the graphic memoir Smile. This past summer, Smile was included in Darien Library's booktalking list and was impossible to keep on the shelves. Smile was also named a 2011 ALA Children's Notable Book, and was named a New York Times Book Review Editors' Choice and a Boston Globe-Horn Book Honor Book.

She is also the adapter and illustrator of the Baby-sitter's Club graphic novel series, and the co-author of X-Men: Misfits. The Baby-sitter's Club graphic novels were included in the ALA's Top 10 Graphic Novels for Youth list. In addition to these honors, Raina has also been nominated for the Ignatz, Cybil, and EisnerAwards. To read more about Raina, visit her website at goraina.com.
