Local Student Organizes 'Harmonies for Haiti' Concert

When it comes to Haiti relief, Darien High School sophomore EJ Couloucoundis walks his talk - and sings his song. In doing so, he has spearheaded "Harmonies for Haiti," a fundraising concert with proceeds to benefit the Clinton Bush Haiti Fund.

Sponsored by the Darien chamber, the benefit concert will be held Friday, April 23, at 7:30pm in the Darien High School auditorium. Eight local acts will be featured, including bands Staff Infection and Tone; singing groups Darien Tudor Singers and Acabella; and two dance groups from the Darien Arts Council. Couloucoundis will add his own touch, performing Sinatra standards, as well as tunes by Michael Buble and Josh Groban, with Broadway and classical styles tossed in.

"Harmonies for Haiti" is seeking sponsors, who may select from platinum, gold and silver contribution levels. If sponsorship is not an option, area businesses are encouraged to contribute a product or service to the "fish bowl" raffle prizes. The evening will also include a bake sale to raise additional funds.

The high-schooler has left no stone unturned and, as a result, the event may even have a presidential flair.

Couloucoundis has sent an invitation to Former President Clinton asking if he would attend, and perhaps bring his sax. The student's mom has spoken with the Clinton Foundation and, at press time, the president's schedule is unclear.
