Please join SoundWaters for its annual coastal clean-up day at Cove Island Park. You will be among  more than 500,000 adults and children worldwide who clear debris and litter from beaches and shorelines on every continent. Volunteer record every item that is picked up. Information is is sent to an international data bank.

The event at SoundWaters includes the beach clean-up, followed by education and arts and crafts activities at SoundWaters Coastal Center focusing on the impact of marine debris on all marine creatures, especially the terrapin. The SoundWaters aquarium and touch tank features many animals that live in Long Island Sound, including spider crabs, flounder and other fish, and special tanks for horseshoe crabs and terrapins.

SoundWaters educators and volunteers will staff tables to demonstrate how specific types of debris—microfilament, balloons, cigarette butts and plastic bag—affect various marine animals. Terrapins are particularly vulnerable to debris.
