Weekend Calendar, July 1-3: Fireflies and Jugglers

A roundup of some of the best weekend events across the area.

If you can't make it to or the YWCA's Push-n-Pull Parade — or if you're just itching for more to do — there are plenty of options around the area this weekend:

Find out what's happening in Darienwith free, real-time updates from Patch.

  • Where: Audubon Greenwich, 613 Riversville Rd.,  Greenwich
  • When: Friday, July 1 at 8:30 p.m.
  • Why go: Nothing says summer quite like fireflies. Learn how and why these twinkly bugs flash, then try to tell species apart by looking at their different light patterns.
  • Price: For non-members: $5 for adults, $3 for children. Members: $3 for adults and $1.50 for children. Call 869-5272 ext. 230 to reserve your spot.

  • Where: Grove St. and Brook St., Darien
  • When: Friday, July 1 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.
  • Why go: Hear Darien natives rock out. This week's artists will perform some top country and folk hits.
  • Price: Free

 

  • Where: , 468 South Ave., New Canaan
  • When: Friday, July 1, Saturday, July 2, and Sunday, July 3 at 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.
  • Why go: This family-run circus will feature aerialists, dog and horse acts, jugglers, clowns and more.
  • Price: $15.00 in advance and $20.00 at the door. Call 966-4528 for tickets.

 

Creative Kids: USA

  • Where: Stepping Stones Museum for Children, 303 West Ave., Norwalk
  • When: Saturday, July 2 from 2:00 to 3:00 pm
  • Why go: Looking to celebrate the fourth of July a couple days early? Stop by Stepping Stones to create your own scratch-off firework art in honor of America's birthday.
  • Price: Free with Museum admission ($12 for adults and children, $10 for seniors)

 

Intertidal Species at the Maritime Aquarium

  • Where: Maritime Aquarium, 10 North Water St., Norwalk
  • When: Saturday, July 2 at 10:30 a.m., 12:00 p.m., 2:00 p.m., or 3:30 pm
  • Why go: Get your hands on some of the aquarium's most interesting species. Experts will be on hand to explain how animals who live in the ocean's surf survive in such a rough environment. This event is recommended for children 9 and up.
  • Price: $5 per person
