June 10-12: Frogs, Free Admission, and Civil War Fare

From Civil War-style food to open houses, there are options aplenty in and around Darien this weekend:
- Where: Loft Artists Association Gallery, 845 Canal St., Stamford
- When: Friday, June 10 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
- Why go: Darien resident Diane Weeks has brought together a collection of art that pays tribute to the essential elements earth, wind, fire and water. Check out the art and enjoy free refreshments during Friday's opening night festivities.

- Where: Stepping Stones Museum for Children, 303 West Ave., Norwalk
- When: Saturday, June 11 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
- Why go: In honor of Connecticut Open House Day, the first 100 visitors to the children's museum will receive free admission. If that's not enough to entice you, local author Lizzy Rockwell will be on hand to do a reading at 10:30 am.

- Where: Stamford Museum's Overbrook Nature Center, 39 Scofieldtown Rd., Stamford
- When: Saturday, June 11 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
- Why go: If you or your kids have a thing for amphibians, this event shouldn't be missed. Stamford Museum expert Chris Evers will take guests to the vernal pool to check out frogs and salamanders and learn about metamorphosis. Pre-registration is required; call 203-977-6521 to reserve your spot.
- Price: $5 for members, $8 for non-members

- When: Saturday, June 11 from noon to 5:30 p.m.
- Why go: The Darien Arts Center Annual Art Show and Sale will be open one last time Saturday from noon to 5:30 p.m. The exhibit features art by children and adults who live or work in Darien.

- Where: , 2 E Wall St., Norwalk
- When: June 11 from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
- Why go: History buffs and the hungry can come together at Saturday's tasting. Twelve local eateries will prepare Civil War era dishes to be tasted and judged by attendees. Reenacters will also be on hand to perform and chat with attendees. Proceeds from the event will go to the Civil War Soldiers Monument in Riverside Cemetery.
