Want to get out and enjoy the spring? Here are some picks for the best events in and around Darien:

Spring on the Farm

  • Where: Stamford Museum and Nature Center, 39 Scofieldtown Rd., Stamford
  • When: Sunday, May 15 from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm
  • Why go: Come to Heckscher Farm's annual sheep meet-and-greet. There will be face-painting, hay rides, story-telling, and refreshments, along with lots of opportunities to get to know the farm animals. 
  • Price: $5 for members and UBS employees; $10 for non-members; Children under 3 are free

  • Where: , 576 Boston Post Rd., Darien
  • When: Friday, May 13 and Saturday May 14 from 9:30 a.m. to 5:oo p.m.
  • Why go: Come see the work of two New England-based two naturalist painters. Claudia Waters specializes in coastal sea birds and Kate Hoekstra is best-known for her still-life florals and portraits.  
  • Price: Free

  • Where: , 1 Roton Ave., Norwalk
  • When: Friday, May 13 from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. and Saturday May 14 from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
  • Why go: Support a local school and enjoy food, music, rides, and games at Rowayton's annual carnival.
  • Price: Admission is free; games and rides cost $1 each

  • Where: Unitarian Church of Westport, 10 Lyons Plains Rd., Westport
  • When: Friday, May 13 at 7:30 p.m.
  • Why go: If you're in the mood for a film, check out this documentary about going green in Detroit. Urban Roots documents several efforts to bring community agriculture to a former industrial capital.
  • Price: Free

I Want to Go Green

  • Where: Maritime Aquarium, 10 North Water St., Norwalk
  • When: Saturday, May 14 at 11:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m., 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.
  • Why go: Hear local author Jill Dunn read from her new children's book, I Want To Go Green, But What Does That Mean?
  • Price: Free with aquarium admission ($12.95 for adults, $11.95 for seniors, $9.95 for children under 12)
