Weekend Calendar, July 29-31: Boats, Bollywood, and Bug Spray Required

A roundup of some of the best events in and around Darien.

Whether you're looking to beat the heat or embrace it (highs are expected to creep back into the upper 80s), there are some great options this weekend for evening entertainment and family fun:

Screening: Ratatouille

  • Where: , 1441 Post Rd., Darien
  • When: Saturday, July 30 at 1:00 pm
  • Why go: Drop by the library for a screening of this 2007 Pixar film about a rat who learns to cook. Refreshments (sans rodents) will be served.
  • Price: Free

  • Where: , 7 North Water St., Norwalk
  • When: Friday, July 29, Saturday, July 30 and Sunday, July 31 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
  • Why go: Take a cruise back in time with this tour of a historic landmark. Once you reach the island, guides will be on hand to offer lighthouse tours. Guests can also enjoy the nature trail through Stewart B. McKinney Wildlife Refuge.
  • Price: $22 for adults; $20 for seniors and NSA members; $12 for children ages 4-12; $5 for children 3 and younger. You can buy your tickets here.

  • Where: Madeira Bar and Lounge, 25 Atlantic St., Stamford
  • When: Friday, July 29 from 8:30 p.m. to 2:00 a.m.
  • Why go: Dance the night away to some of India's best (or at least campiest) tunes. Added bonus: free appetizers.
  • Price: $5. RSVP by 4:00 on Friday and receive a pass for free entry before 9:30. RSVP to madeiralounge@gmail.com.

Summer Family Camp Out

  • Where: Stamford Museum and Nature Center, 39 Scofieldtown Rd., Stamford
  • When: Saturday, July 30 at 5:30 p.m. to Sunday, July 31 at 9:00 a.m.
  • Why go: Embrace your inner adventurer at the Stamford Museum's annual camp-out. Pitch a tent and enjoy a night of animal programs, night sky viewing, a camp fire and a pancake breakfast.
  • Price: For members: $100 for one parent/child team; $35 for each extra family member. For non-members: $140 for 1 parent/child; $35 for each additional family member. Call 203-977-6521 to register.

  • Where: , 1 Belden Ave., Norwalk
  • When: Saturday, July 30 from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. 
  • Why go: If you're looking to liven up your weekend, stop by the Norwalk Public Library for this celebration of Colombian heritage. Performers will be on hand to demonstrate Colombian folklore dance. There will also be an information session on Temporary Protection Status.
