CT Mag: Darien's Coromandel Best Indian Restaurant

Connecticut Magazine's food experts named Coromandel restaurant in Darien as one of the five best places to get Indian food in the state.

Coromandel Cuisine of India restaurant in Darien was named one of five best Indian restaurants in the state by Connecticut Magazine's "dining experts," who served up a long list of their estimations of the best eateries.

Coromandel shares top honors for Indian restaurants with Navaratna of Stamford (which also won in the best Vegeterian category), Thali in New Canaan (as well as New Haven and Ridgefield), Kolam in Newtown and Swagat in West Haven. Tawa in Stamford was given honorable mention as an Indian restaurant.

According to the article, editors polled 89 "dining-out experts we’d put together from among reviewers, food writers and editors, cookbook authors, bloggers, and other avid diners we know to have a wide knowledge of Connecticut restaurants."

Coromandel was the only Darien restaurant named among the dozens of eateries around the state mentioned in Connecticut Magazine's "best of" list, although there were plenty of restaurants in Fairfield County that made the list.

"The Top 5 finishers in each category are listed in alphabetical order and are all entitled to call themselves 'Best' on our behalf," the magazine editors wrote.

The five restaurants named "Best Overall" are Rebecca's in Greenwich, Thomas Henkelmann (also in Greenwich), Union League Cafe in New Haven, West Street Grill in Litchfield and Winvian in Morris.

Some Stamford restaurants on the list: Columbus Park (honorable mention for Italian), La Bretagne (honorable mention for French), Tigin (honorable mention for best Pub), The Capital Grille (best Steak), Dinosaur BBQ (honorable mention for best Barbecue), City Limits Diner (best Breakfast), Brasitas (honorable mention for best appetizers) and Kotobuki (best Sushi).

These Norwalk restaurants also made the list: Brasitas (best Mexican/Latin American), Valencia Luncheria (honorable mention for Mexican/Latin American), The Restaurant at Rowayton Seafood (best Seafood), The Ginger Man (best Pub), Jeff's Cuisine (best Barbecue), Sugar & Olives (honorable metion for best Breakfast), The Spread (honorable mention for best Appetizers), The Loft (best Cocktails), Valencia Luncheria (best Value), Los Portales (honorable mention for best Value) and Kazu (honorable mention for best Sushi).
