Darien Jobless Rate Inches up to 6.3 Percent

That October figure—the latest available— is up from 6.0 percent in September

Darien's unemployment rate edged up a bit to 6.3 percent in October, up from September's 6.0 percent, according to the latest figures released by the Connecticut Department of Labor.

The town had 592 people looking for work in October, up from 559 in September.

The department's figures also showed the number of workers in the labor force in Darien stayed steady: 8,729 in September, and only six more in October—8,735.

Darien's unemployment rate peaked in July, with 6.8 percent and 653 workers without work (see table below).

State, National Unemployment Rate

In Connecticut, the pool of jobless people last month rose to 9.0 percent overall. Nationally, the United State's unemployment rate is 7.9 percent.

Locally, Greenwich's unemployment rate currently sits at 5.9 percent, Darien's at 6.3 percent and New Canaan's is at 6.0 percent.
