How to Make a Lemon Drop Cocktail

Here's how Colin Ambrose, executive chef and owner of Estia's American, makes a Lemon Drop mixed drink.

Estia's version, which Ambrose calls a "Crop Organic Meyer Lemon Drop," uses three ounces of Crop Organic Meyer Lemon Vodka and these other ingredients:

1 ounce Cointreau ("I've used Triple Sec, but everybody likes Cointreau," Ambrose said.

1 freshly squeezed lemon

Sugar with dried lemon zest for the rim of the glass

Implements he used in the demonstration: a strainer, a metal bar shaker and a chilled martini glass.

At Estia's they dry their lemon zest and run it through a food processor.

The mix of sugar with a bit of lemon zest was put in a saucer or small plate ready for the glass to get its rim dipped in as shown in the video.

He chilled the glass just by letting it sit for a short while holding ice and water.

"You don't have to use the Meyer," Ambrose said. "You could easily make it with a nice bar vodka."

(Meyer lemons, by the way, are a cross between lemons and mandarin oranges.)

Estia's American restaurant is located at 1020 Post Road, in the back of the building, at the corner of the Center Street Parking Lot).
