Pay to Rise in Finance, Accounting, Robert Half Says

Salaries in the fields of finance and accounting will go up as the job market tightens further, the staffing and consulting agency says.

Pay in finance and accounting fields is rising by 3.7 percent "but many positions are showing even larger jumps in pay," according to Robert Half, a professional staffing and consulting company

Those predictions are part of the just-released 2014 Salary Guides report for accounting and finance jobs. The report focuses on starting salaries and other hiring, retention and staff management trends. Robert Half International Inc. publishes that and other industry hiring reports on an annual basis.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, finance, insurance and real estate, taken together, account for 35.8 percent of the jobs held by Darien residents -- larger than any other census category. Darien's second largest U.S. Census employment category -- "Professional, Scientific & Management," which includes accounting -- is where another 18.5 percent of the town's employed population works.

The 30-page 2014 Salary Guides report includes salary ranges "for more than 350 positions in corporate and public accounting, finance, banking, and financial services," according to the publication.

The repoert has this to say about today's hiring environment in the fields of finance and accounting:

"The market for experienced accounting and finance professionals has tightened dramatically in many areas. Hiring managers often are operating under the misperception there is a large, highly qualified candidate pool to draw from.

"Though general unemployment levels remain high, unemployment rates for a number of accounting and finance occupations are below the national average. Degreed financial professionals with specialized skills frequently receive multiple offers and counteroffers."

Here's an announcement released today by Robert Half staffing and consulting company about this year's report:
