Priscilla Lynn: New DMBA Executive Director

We had a Q&A with Priscilla Lynn, new Executive Director of the Downtown Milford Business Association, as of November 1st, 2012.

As the New Executive Director of the DMBA, what are you hoping to accomplish?

First and foremost, I am extremely pleased to be in a role to support the jewel of Milford and its downtown district merchants and businesses. I just love downtown Milford, and have been a frequent visitor for years - walking around shopping, visiting, dining, and taking care of business.

I anticipate continuing the successful momentum forged by former ED Louise Hebert, developing and managing additional destination-oriented programs, and working with the organization and committees on various endeavors. I am particularly keen on ramping up visitor traffic to the DMBA’s website and forging greater online presence via social media marketing, tech-smart applications, and partnering with local and statewide organizations, businesses, and corporations.

For example, I and DMBA committee members will be working with former State Representative/Speaker of the House Jim Amann of L.A. Productions & Entertainment to develop the Hollywood East Film Festival, slated to take place in downtown Milford.

You've been active in Milford for years, how will you use that experience in your new position?

One big plus as a long-time Milford-based business owner is that I myself am a downtowner – my office is on River Street in the Milford Office Suites.

I believe my tenure and active role as a member and volunteer in the many business and community organizations provides a positive platform as I advance the DMBA’s branding and growth goals.

My network of local, national, and international contacts should be of benefit in terms of destination-oriented marketing objectives. What I also bring to the party is many years experience working with other similar merchant/business organizations.

Will you be doing less work with PrisCo Consulting or just work twice as hard at both?

While the DMBA position is part-time, most certainly my workload will increase. However, I’d like to think I’ll be morphing into working smarter rather than harder.

PrisCo Consulting has been providing public relations, marketing, special events, and business development services to businesses from small to mega-corporations for 22 years. I will continue my work with consulting clients as well as enthusiastically embrace and manage my new role with the DMBA.

What advice would you have for potential business owners thinking about opening up shop in Downtown?

Downtown Milford is a shoreline jewel, and most certainly the heartbeat of the ‘Little City with a Big Heart.’ It is a vibrant, friendly hub of activity wrapped around the State’s second largest Green.

It possesses all the important elements to provide a successful platform for any potential business with its mixed-blend combination of residential, retail shops, restaurants, and professional service businesses. Milford is consumer and business-friendly.

Besides the DMBA, there are many other support organizations to connect with while exploring location options such as the Milford Chamber of Commerce, the City of Milford Economic and Community Development Commission, Milford Pride Inc. (MPI), and more.

I would also recommend that potential business owners experience downtown – as the DMBA motto states: Shop, Dine & Play.
