Rugged Bear Set to Close Doors

The chain's liquidation, announced Thursday, will include its Darien location at the Goodwives Shopping Center.

Children's clothing retailer Rugged Bear is set to close all 29 of its stores after the company announced Thursday that it would liquidate.

The closure will include the company's in the Goodwives Shopping Center (25 Old Kings Highway North).

Founded in 1980, the Norwood, Mass.-based company filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in January due to "increasing liquidity constraints and a deteriorating relationship with some of its key landlords and vendors."

After a series of court proceedings over the past six weeks, the company was slated for liquidation under the oversight of Gordon Brothers Group.

“Our customers have shown extreme loyalty to us over the years,” Michael O’Hara, Rugged Bear's chief restructuring officer, said in a statement. “We hope that they take advantage of these incredible savings and stock up on play clothes and outerwear just in time for the start of spring.”

Liquidation sales are set to begin Friday at all of the chain's locations, which are spread across New England and New Jersey.

The retailer said that savings of up to 50 percent will be available and that the sale would continue until all merchandise is sold. Sales will be final, however.

The company also reported that it would honor all gift cards and store credits during the sale.
