August 14th, State Senators Bob Duff and Carlo Leone and State Representative Terrie Wood promoted the upcoming “Sales Tax-Free Week” in Connecticut at the Helen Ainson and Spree stores along with along numerous Darien Chamber of Commerce retailers and Chamber board members Kaye Leong~Darien Rowayton Bank and John Lundeen~Lundeen Cliffside Associates~Darien Selectman.
The Chamber staff had lined up over 20 Darien “logoed” shopping bags to highlight the fact that Darien has so many places to shop. Connecticut’s annual sales tax-free week, begins this Sunday, August 18 and concludes next Saturday, August 24. During the week, shoppers do not pay the 6.35 percent state sales tax on clothing and footwear costing less than $300 per item.
Senators Duff and Leone, and Representative Wood all agreed that since economy is not back to full speed, the Connecticut sales-tax free week is all the more important to help families save some money on their clothing and shoe purchases.
The timing is excellent for “back to school shopping” and many shops in Darien are also offering some sale items. Watch for Facebook and Twitter specials from your favorite Darien shops.
Much of the appeal of shopping in "Our Beautiful Town on the Sound" comes from the growing diversity of our local shops and restaurant. When you have a choice, please shop, dine and do business in Darien.
