Barrett's Releases Summer Reading List for Kids

Darien bookstore has released summer reading recommendations for middle-schoolers looking to fulfill assignment requirements—or just looking for something to take to the beach.

"Accidental Genius of Weasel High" by Rick Detorie, "Chomp" by Carl Hiassen and "Between Shades of Grey" by Ruta Sepetys are among the 18 books recommends for middle-schoolers this summer. The picks come from a Middlesex Middle School librarian, according to their website, and a mysterious figure named "Maggie."

Students from MMS are asked to read 3-4 books over the summer, each from a different genre, and then write reports/online review(s).

The books that students read can be taken from anywhere, but Darien's local one-stop-shop for all your book needs has made the task of finding that perfect book easy. No matter what your child—or even yourself—is interested it, the subject is no doubt neatly snuggled in one of the bookstore's many shelves.

Also happening at Barrett's: Christopher Buckley, author of "They Eat Puppies, Don't They?" will be stopping by for a reading and to sign some copies. Buckley lives in CT and is the author of 15 books. Perhaps one of his most notable works, "Thank You for Smoking" was made into a feature film in 2005.  June 5 at 7 p.m.
