Two DHS Ski Team Races in One Week

Darien, CT. February 3, 2014 – The Darien High School Ski Team raced twice last week because the snow storm closed some of the schools scheduled to race on January 22. It was sunny and cold but the snow conditions were good. The January 28 race was against Cheshire, Fairfield Prep, Staples, St. Luke’s School, and Westbrook at the Mt. Southington Ski Area. The Darien Girls had two racers finishing in the top ten led by Co-captain Katharine Graham, who was the second fastest girl on the mountain, and Co-captain Taylor Hart who finished seventh out of 80 varsity girl skiers

The Girls Varsity Team with a time of 321.49 finished 3rd defeating Cheshire, 323.38 and Westbrook DSQ while losing to Staples 311.64. The Boys Varsity Team with a time of 311.14 finished 7th defeating St. Luke’s School DSQ and Westbrook DSQ while losing to Cheshire 288.64, Fairfield Prep 281.84 and Staples 280.89.. 

Girls’ times on the 28th were Katharine Graham 48.74 (Co-captain), Taylor Hart 50.05 (Co-captain), Maggie Skeats 51.82, Carly Schoudel 54.78, Caitlin Keady 56.76, Adrianna Dziedzic 59.27, Madison Maier 62.30, Christina Molkenthin 62.88, Maggie Reilly 63.18, and Lila Seeman 63.24.

Boys’ times on the 28th were Peter Del Col 46.45 (Co-captain), Brooks Daley 47.69, Chris von Stuelpnagel 53.34, Mac Forbes 53.57, Graham Skeats 54.70 (Co-captain), R. J. Murray 55.39, Seth Canaday 56.50, Gray Kline 57.15, Slater Lovegrove 58.96 and Sam Arrix DSQ.

The DHS Ski Team third race of the season was against Berlin, Glastonbury, Hand, Ridgefield, Southington, and Wilton at the Mt. Southington Ski Area on January 29th. The Darien Girls had two racers, Kyla Pech and Co-captain Katharine Graham, finishing in the top ten.

The Girls Varsity Team with a time of 309.91 finished 4th defeating Glastonbury 324.61, Hand 332.02, and Southington DSQ, while losing to Ridgefield 305.54 and Wilton 304.53. The Boys Varsity Team with a time of 311.13 finished 6th defeating Berlin DSQ, Hand 311.40 and Southington DSQ while losing to Glastonbury 296.28, Ridgefield 290.79, and Wilton 306.95. 

Girls’ times on the 29th were Kyla Pech 48.58, Katharine Graham 48.67 (Co-captain), Taylor Hart 50.28 (Co-captain), Maggie Skeats 51.55, Carly Schoudel 54.66, Caitlin Keady 56.27, Adrianna Dziedzic 58.69, Christina Molkenthin 60.35, Maggie Reilly 60.67, and Madison Maier 60.71.

Boys’ times on the 29th were Peter Del Col 46.66 (Co-captain), Brooks Daley 48.24, Chris von Stuelpnagel 52.23, Graham Skeats 54.36 (Co-captain), R. J. Murray 54.56, Sam Arrix 54.98, Seth Canaday 56.60, Gray Kline 58.60, Slater Lovegrove 58.78 and Trevor LaVecchia 64.99.

Coach Brian Zeyer said, “We have crossed the half way point in the season and the boy’s team led by Senior and Co-captain Peter Del Col is doing well with a record of seven wins and nine losses. The girl’s team is having a strong showing with seven wins and three losses. We only have a few seniors this year and they are all bringing in points for the teams.”
