Darien School District Hires Consultant on Special Ed Law

Darien Schools Superintendent Stephen V. Falcone issued the following news release late Thursday afternoon:

The Darien Public Schools will be cooperating with the State Department of Education in its investigation into a complaint filed by parents regarding our special education procedures.

In addition, upon reviewing the concerns expressed, the district has retained Theresa DeFrancis, an experienced and highly regarded education consultant and attorney with more than thirty years in the field of special education.

Ms. DeFrancis will independently review and revise staff development materials as necessary.

Ms. DeFrancis will also provide new training to teachers, service providers, administrators and parents in the requirements of the special education laws as may be necessary to rectify any problems and ensure that our processes are in accordance with state and federal law.

We look forward to working with our parent community and others as we assure compliance with all legal requirements.
