Darien Special Ed Parents Group to Advocate, Communicate

A group of Darien parents of special education students has announced that it will meet publicly in upcoming months and will advocate and work "to ensure quality services for all Darien children with special needs."

Darien Public Schools sent out this email this afternoon to parents and others who signed up with the district's email announcement service at
http://www.myschoolpages.com/schools/darienps (the email was sent to Darien Patch at 3:34 p.m.):

Dear Parents,

We are the Darien Special Education Parent Advisory Committee (SEPAC), a PTO Council Special Education Representative group.  Two representatives from each school make up SEPAC, and we work as an advisory committee within the Darien Public School System to ensure quality services for all Darien children with special needs.

We have been nominated by our respective school PTOs to work closely with our schools, district administration, the Director of Special Education, Board of Education and CDSP [Council of Darien School Parents].  It is our mission to have transparency, collaboration and effective communication with each of these groups.

We will hold monthly public meetings and be responsible for requesting and disseminating information pertaining to special education in Darien including meeting dates, agendas, minutes and any policy, budget and personnel updates.

Due to confidentiality laws, our schools are prevented from giving out names of special education families. Therefore, if you are interested in being added to our email distribution list to receive special education updates, please email us at dariensepac@gmail.com.   You can also email this address with any questions. We will maintain a confidential email list for communications.  You can also contact your school’s SEPAC representative listed below.  Let us be a resource for you.
