Campbell Top Bidder on A Day with Klein

Republican candidate for First Selectman Dave Campbell bids $500 for "A Day with the First Selectwoman." And wins!

Republican candidate for First Selectman Dave Campbell was a top bidder at the 5th Annual Chamber of Commerce Wine Tasting and Auction, Oct. 8.  Five hundred dollars well spent, he said, for a valuable prize: A Day with the First Selectwoman.

“This was for a great charity, and I thought it would be fun to spend the day with Evonne,” said Campbell whose top bid of $500 will benefit A Better Chance and the YWCA Darien/Norwalk.

The news came as a surprise to First Selectwoman Evonne Klein who said she has offered the prize to the auction once before.

“Last time I did this with a high school student,” said Klein. “This will be a little different.”

Before the month is through, just days before the Municipal Election Nov. 3, Klein will share her office with First Selectman candidate Campbell.

Klein and Campbell have yet to coordinate a date, but Campbell said he’d like to sit in on a Board of Selectmen meeting towards the end of the month. Klein said that while Campbell will sit on the Board—quite literally—he will not have executive or administrative power, as per the Town Charter.

As for what the two plan to do, Klein said that all depends on the day, but “work” will undoubtedly be on the agenda.

“Meeting to meeting to meeting to meeting,” said Klein. “I definitely think Dave will get a different perspective on the position and how we interact with the staff from the other side of the dais.

Work, work, work—and a break, said Campbell:

“I think it will be great fun. I may even take Evonne out to lunch,” he said. “I’m looking forward to it.”
