CL&P says it will turn off power to roughly 500 Darien customers and 600 Stamford customers "for about 30 minutes" Wednesday morning to conduct preventative maintenance.

Spokeswoman Janine M. Saunders said that the work was a "proactive" effort to remove trees near power lines that "aren't affecting power but could present risk."

"I know this is particularly painful after what people have gone through," Saunders said, adding that the work is designed to prevent future outages.

The downtime is expected to begin within the hour, she added. Saunders said she wasn't sure whether the outage would affect any schools.
