Darien Girls Win Class L Indoor Track Title

Darien boys finish second at the meet held in New Haven on Monday

The Darien girls indoor track team won the Class L championship Monday at the Floyd Little Athletic Center in New Haven while the Blue Wave boys finished second.

The girls posted a team score of 72.50, edging Windsor (71) for the title. East Lyme (53.25) finished third, followed by Fairfield Warde (43) and Hartford Public (30) to complete the top five.

Windsor (62) won the boys crown, besting the Blue Wave (58) by four points. New Canaan (46) placed third, followed by Fitch (35) and Fairfield Ludlowe (32).

Dillon Schoen won the 600-meter run for Darien with a time of 1:39.86, nipping Bristol Central's Melissa Cummings (1:39:81) by less than a half of a second.

Grace Loh finished second for Darien in the 1,000-meter run (3:00.31), less than a second behind winner Cate Allen of Warde (2:59.57).

In addition, Leah Hotchkiss (5-01) and Catherine Lacy (5-00) gave Darien a one-two finish in the high jump. Darien's Madeleine Schneider placed third in the pole vault (9-00) and Lacy was second in the long jump (17-01).

For the boys, Nicholas Lombardo won the high jump with a leap of six feet, edging Bunnell's Jordan Dudley for the title.

Matt Pik was third in the 600-meter run (1:25.99) while Charlie Baird finished second in the 3,200-meter run (9:58.13), almost 11 minutes behind Harry Warnick of Warde (9:47.60). Darien also finished third in the 1,600-meter sprint relay.
